MAJOR Amex Gold Change Deep Dive: The New White Gold & Elevated Offers

The American Express Gold Card is getting a massive overhaul: an annual fee increase, two brand-new credits, multiplier caps, and a limited-edition White Gold design. Here's everything you need to know about the changes and whether this card still earns its place in your wallet.

The Annual Fee & New Statement Credits

Final Numbers

Old annual fee$250
New annual fee$325 (+$75)
Total new credits$184 ($84 Dunkin' + $100 Resy)

New Credit 1: The $84 Dunkin' Credit

You now get up to $7 in monthly statement credits for Dunkin' purchases. This only works at standalone US Dunkin' locations — not pop-ups or locations inside gas stations — and buying gift cards at a grocery store won't trigger it.

💡

Easy Activation Trick

If you're not a daily Dunkin' regular, do a manual $7 reload directly in the Dunkin' app each month to lock in the credit and stack the balance for a future coffee run.

New Credit 2: The $100 Resy Credit

Split into two $50 semi-annual credits (January–June and July–December). You must book and pay through the Resy app or website at a participating restaurant to trigger it. A quick search in the Resy app shows eligible restaurants in your area.

Multiplier Updates

Final Numbers

4x Restaurants worldwide$50,000 annual cap (new)
4x US Supermarkets$25,000 annual cap (unchanged)
3x FlightsDirect with airlines or AmexTravel.com
2x Prepaid Hotels & Rental CarsVia AmexTravel.com

Legacy Credits (With One Tweak)

  • $120 Uber Credit — $10/month, usable for Uber rides or Uber Eats (unchanged)
  • $120 Dining Credit — $10/month; Five Guys added to the roster, Milk Bar and Shake Shack removed

The Limited-Edition White Gold Design

Available for a limited time while supplies last. The White Gold colorway has a sleek faded aesthetic with prominent black edging and less-embossed lettering than the traditional Gold or Rose Gold cards — giving it a minimalist, modern feel.

The "Family Rule" Application Warning

If you're considering applying to grab the elevated 100,000-point welcome offer, Amex's new application rules could block you based on the tier of card you already hold:

  1. 1Apply for the Green Card first
  2. 2Then the Gold Card
  3. 3Finally the Platinum Card
📌

If you already hold the Amex Platinum, you are currently ineligible to earn a new Gold card welcome bonus under these terms. The optimal path is Green → Gold → Platinum.

Is It Still a Keeper?

At $325, the Amex Gold now features $424 in total potential statement credits — it functions like a monthly coupon book. If you organically use Uber, dine at Resy restaurants, grab Dunkin', and use the dining credits, the card completely pays for itself. If you prefer a simpler setup without monthly tracking, the fee increase might make this a pass.
